Prime 9 Greatest International Signings

Today we count down the greatest International Free Agent signings in Mr. October in this episode of Prime 9. Why 9, because that's baseball! The list is opinion based on many factors such as ratings, potential, career numbers, stand out seasons, awards, championships, and records with at least 5 seasons played. Here's my Prime 9 Greatest International Signings in Mr. October!

9.
Cesar Ortiz
Montreal
Gator Beaters
Age: 37B/T: S/R
Born: Solito, AW
Position(s): P (ClA)
View Hardball Dynasty Profile

A mere 8 million dollars produced one of the worlds premiere closers back in Season 2. Throughout his 14 year career Mr. Ortiz has become Mr. October's All-Time leader in saves with 433. This 3 time Fireman of the Year and 7 time All-Star is easily one of the greatest Closers found in the International market!

8.
Enrique Amaro
Durham
DoubleEagles
Age: 34B/T: L/R
Born: San Juan De La Maguana, DO
Position(s): C/1B/DH
View Hardball Dynasty Profile

Amaro signed with rgun in Season 5 for 12.9 million and quickly burst on the scene with an amazing .324/43/111 in his Rookie of the Year campaign. Playing in Durham has been a perfect storm for a power hitting Catcher with an eye for production. In 12 seasons Amaro has amassed over 1800 hits 418 HRs and over 1100 RBIs, walks and runs! The career .321 batter has won 8 Silver Sluggers, 2 Gold Gloves, and been named to 8 All-Star teams to go with his NL MVP in Season 11. His .447 OBP is the 2nd highest in league history.

7.
Junior Javier
Tucson
Stampede
Age: 36B/T: R/R
Born: Pueblo Nuevo, DO
Position(s): P (LRB)
View Hardball Dynasty Profile

Javier was plucked from the Dominican during Season 2 for 16.5 million. Despite having been traded 3 times and testing free agency twice, Junior has won 206 games and stuck out almost 2,700 batters in his fine career. In Season 6 he won the NL Cy Young with a 20 win, 212 K, 3.32 ERA Season for Sioux Falls. He has since been named to 7 All-Star teams with 4 different clubs.

6.
David Guerrero
Las Vegas
Midget Strippers
Age: 25B/T: R/R
Born: Las Matas Cotui, DO
Position(s): 1B/RF/DH
View Hardball Dynasty Profile

The Youngest of our list, Guerrero was snagged by ferguson17 in Season 12 for only 13.1m. His low health made it a risk and surely was the main reason this beast was dealt to kobylesky just 2 years later. Since arriving in Las Vegas, DG won the AL MVP in Season 17 with a staggering .345/52/118. DG has been to 4 straight All-Star games and really hasn't missed much time in his 5 seasons in the majors, producing over 600 plate appearances for 4 straight years. If he stays healthy, his offensive ratings will get him deep into the Mr. October record books!

5.
Juan Alfonzo
Tampa Bay
Gators
Age: 33B/T: R/R
Born: Villa Mella, DO
Position(s): 1B/DH
View Hardball Dynasty Profile

At the age of 20, Alfonzo signed with Scottsdale for 13.3m and went straight to the majors. Mashing baseballs is all he's done in the 12 seasons since, to the tune of 617 HRs which is 4th most All-Time! A career .304/.399/.606 slugger, Juan won 3 MVPs with Scottsdale in seasons 9,10 and 13. His record 81 HRs in Season 10 will likely never be challenged again. In Season 15 with his power on the decline, Alfonzo was shipped to Tampa for a new shot at a title after having come up short 3 times in Scottsdale. It did not take long as Tampa gave him his first ring in Season 15, then added 2 more in Seasons 17 and 18. It remains to be seen if Juan has enough juice to out last Stechschulte to become Mr. October's All-Time HR king!

4.
Louie Sivilla
Tampa Bay
Gators
Age: 30B/T: R/R
Born: San Jose De Las Lajas, CU
Position(s): LF/1B/RF/DH
View Hardball Dynasty Profile

At the end of Season 8 Sivilla was signed for 15.8m by the then Oakland franchise at the age of 19. By 21 he was in the majors, at 22 he played his first full season and at 23 he won his first NL MVP with a .349/44/118 line with Salem. After a few great seasons in Salem/Helena Season 14 was a low spot where Louie "only" produced at a .323/23/112 clip. The following Off-Season sermonauthor traded LSiv to Tampa for 3 highly touted prospects. Making 3 huge moves that off-season cdc80uf acquired perhaps the best hitter in the game to hold the 3 spot in the lineup for years to come. Sivilla proceeded to lead the Gators to Championships in 3 of the next 4 seasons while himself winning NL MVP and batting titles in Seasons 16(.352/58/134) and 18. In Season 18 he set a Mr. October record for hits with 238 while batting .360/46/122. Only 30 years old and already almost 1800 hits, Louie should be right there challenging the great Harold Hawkins for the All-Time hits record before all is said and done.

3.
Albert Gabriel
Scranton
Dunder Mifflinites
Age: 36B/T: L/R
Born: Las Matas Cotui, DO
Position(s): C/DH
View Hardball Dynasty Profile

No International bat has been more feared than Phat Albert Gabriel. Insanely it only took 8.7 million to sign Gabriel in Season 2 by mulder613 and his Johnnycakes. In his ROY Season 4, Gabs hit .322/42/133 and followed it with a sophomore season for the ages. Season 5 Albert hit a Catcher record 71 HRs driving in 156 runs, raking .340/.448/.767 and needless to say his first AL MVP. His junior campaign was destroyed when he tore his ACL just 21 games into Season 6. Gabriel return the next year and started a streak of 10 straight years of 40 HRs and 100 RBIs. Gabriel won his 2nd MVP in Season 8 with an unbelievable .394 avg, 69 HRs and 163 RBIs and his first and only ring in his final season for New Britain, Season 11. In Season 12 Phat Albert signed a massive 5 year deal totaling more than 70 million dollars with arch rival Scranton. jmscher enjoyed MVP seasons in 12 and 16 while celebrating his 500th and 600th HRs but gained no championships. This season the 13 time All-Star will pass 700 HRs and perhaps move into 2nd on the All-Time HR list.

2.
Roberto Cruz
Tampa Bay
Gators
Age: 34B/T: R/R
Born: Santiago, DO
Position(s): P (SP2)
View Hardball Dynasty Profile

Hindsight being 20/20, perhaps 50 million would have been a bargain price for Mr. Roberto Cruz back in Season 5. The lowly 16m mike1184 dished out for arguably the greatest pitcher in the history of Mr. October was an outright theft! Starting with his rookie year Cruz has been voted an All-Star every season and it only took 3 years to start a run of 5 straight NL Cy Young Awards from Season 9-13. That first Cy Young in Season 9 was perhaps his best posting a record for wins with 25 and a micro 1.81 ERA in pitchers haven Wichita. Despite eight 20 win seasons, Cruz could never get that elusive championship til oddly enough what would be his final season as an Eagle. That NLCS he pitched 2 of the 4 wins over the defending champion Gators to propel the Eagles to their 2nd WS. Cruz went 5-1 with a 0.69 ERA in the playoffs in Season 16 with 2 victories in the WS for the Eagles first championship over St Louis. The following season, citing a need for an influx of youth, mike1184 traded Cruz to rival Tampa for 2 young stars, Parker and Hand. In cdc80uf's 4th blockbuster deal in the past 3 seasons, Cruz was added to the Staff of CRod and Callaway. In his first 2 seasons, Cruz has gone 47-14, picked up his 7th Cy Young, and added 2 consecutive World Championships. Cruz is poised to finish out his career in Tampa while 300 and perhaps 350 victories are on the horizon. RCruz is #1 All-Time in ERA and Innings but 2nd on the career list and in most records to this man...

1.
Carlos Rodriguez
Tampa Bay
Gators
Age: 33B/T: R/R
Born: Monte Cristi, DO
Position(s): P (P)
View Hardball Dynasty Profile

jmscher signed him in Season 4 for an insulting 17.6m. CRod as he would be known took Scranton to the heavens and the rest of Mr. October by the throat. It took CRod just 4 seasons to lead Scranton to its first World Series Victory and his first of now NINE Cy Young Awards in Season 7. Scranton would again take the championship in Seasons 8 and 10 as CRod rewrote the record books. Season 8 was perhaps his finest in Scranton as he posted a 23-6 record a career high 242 innings, 269 Ks and a 2.26 ERA. After 10 Seasons in the AL, including , 177 wins, a 19-7 post-season record, 6 Cy Young's and 3 Rings, CRod made a dash for the Free Agent market. Tampa won the lottery with a max contract making CRod the richest player in Mr. October history. CRod was the first piece of the puzzle in place for a run only CRod knew how to be apart of. After a Cy Young year in his first NL stint going 22-5 with a 1.80 ERA, CRod followed with the greatest single Season in Mr October history. Season 15 everything came together for Tampa as they won their 1st World Series, and as CRod went 21-4 with new MLB records for 1.31 ERA, .174 OAV, .223 OBP, .226 SLG, .83 WHIP and 279 Ks! Season 16's loss to Cruz in the NLCS sparked the following season's trade to united the 2 greatest pitchers on one staff. With Cruz and CRod went 90-27 in season's 17 and 18, each taking home a Cy Young and 2 rings each. CRod went 104-23 with 3 Cy Youngs over the course of Mr October's first max contract. It remains to be seen if CRod will continue with Cruz and Tampa as he mulls his 2nd open market...**Update** CRod took little time to re-sign with his 2nd Max Contract with Tampa, making him the highest earner in league history. Are 400 Wins a possibility???

That's my Prime 9, what's yours?
